On Saturday evening January 6, 2018, Marlene Townsend, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, made her way to heaven in a gentle and peaceful passing.

Marlene was born on June 17, 1935 in Tulsa, OK to Glenn and Blanche Walker. She grew up in Brookside and attended Eliot Elementary, Wilson Jr. High and Tulsa Central High School, Class of 1953.

Marlene married her high school sweetheart, John Townsend. In their 64 year marriage, together they built a family and businesses on a solid foundation based in love and faith in God. They worked side-by-side throughout their careers. Both were dedicated church members and taught Sunday school classes to youth of all ages for more than 6 decades. John preceded her in death in April of 2017.

Marlene found her greatest joy from her family and faith. She welcomed everyone into her heart and home. Marlene’s gentle hugs, generosity, selflessness and warming smile will remain in the memories of the many lives she touched during her 82 years.

She is survived by their four children: Chris, Susan, Kent and his wife Vicki, and Jamie Townsend---all residing in the Tulsa area; brother Gerald Walker of Lafayette, LA; brother-in-law Ron Townsend of West Des Moines, IA; 7 nieces and nephews. The proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way).

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring therapy and nursing staff at Montereau.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the ministry of their choice in Marlene’s honor.

A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held on Thursday, January 11th at 1:00 PM at Crossroads Church 2525 W. Main - Jenks, OK. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Heath-Griffith Funeral Home, 918-446-6633.
